8Tablespoonbutter
3 1⁄2Cupflour
2Tablespoonsugar
1Tablespoonbaking powder
1⁄2Teaspoonsalt
1 1⁄2Cupmilk
Instructions

Melt the stick of butter in a 11 x 14 inch glass baking dish and set aside.

Sift together the dry ingredients.

Add the milk and mix lightly.  Knead a few times in the bowl, then turn the dough out onto a well floured bread board, being sure to handle the dough as little as possible. Roll or pat the dough gently and cut it into strips.

Drop and roll each piece of dough in the melted butter in the baking pan placing close together until all the dough is in the pan.  Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

*variations: substitute an egg for some of the milk, keeping the liquid to 1 1/2 cups.  Add more sugar or a handful of currents for a sweeter biscuit. use buttermilk and a pinch of baking soda for a different taste. . .

Description

These biscuits go well with soups and chili or eggs.
